On 26 and 27 November, the Secondary Performing Arts team proudly presented West Side Story, delivering two unforgettable evenings of music, dance, and powerful storytelling. The production brought together secondary students, teachers, and staff in a vibrant celebration of creativity and collaboration.

Among the talented cast was Harry (Year 9), who took on the role of Bernardo, leader of the Sharks. Reflecting on the experience, he shared how the production helped him grow personally: “It's helped me to build my confidence when I do public speak and to help me to speak with lots of people.”

Taking centre stage as Maria was NK (Year 12), who described the complexity of portraying such an iconic character: “The challenging part is to balance that sweetness in Maria's character with the sassiness… and incorporate that in all her interactions.” She added that working alongside supportive peers made the entire journey special: “Being a cast member is a really special experience… we just all help each other grow and it’s really nice.”

Supporting the cast was the talented student orchestra, including Geonvin (trumpet), who loved being part of the ensemble and performing his solo, and Hajun, who brought the timid Baby John to life. The pair shared their excitement ahead of opening night: “I feel proud and excited to perform with the cast and orchestra.”

From the emotional harmonies of the Jets and Sharks to energetic numbers like I Feel Pretty, the production dazzled audiences across both nights. More than a school performance, West Side Story became a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and the joy of live theatre at BIS Hanoi.
