Celebrating teamwork, determination and unforgettable moments from our athletes

Earlier this month, our talented U15 athletes proudly represented BIS HCMC at the FOBISIA Games in Thailand. Across three full days of sport, teamwork and determination, our students competed against strong teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taipei and the Philippines in athletics, basketball, football and swimming.

This event is never an ordinary competition. It calls for versatility, resilience and the ability to excel across several demanding disciplines. From sprinting on the track to diving into the pool, from fast-paced basketball games to strategic football matches, our athletes demonstrated physical strength, adaptability and a genuine love for sport.

Their commitment to training shone through in every moment as they supported each other and celebrated every success together.

Outstanding Achievements

Our athletes brought home fantastic medals, and podium finishes across multiple sports.
Basketball: 2nd overall for both the girls and boys
Swimming: 3rd overall, with strong individual and relay performances
Athletics and Swimming: Multiple individual medals and standout moments across both events

These achievements speak to the level of competition they faced. More importantly, they reflect the teamwork, support and determination that defined our delegation.

Words from Our Head of Secondary PE, Mr Ali Thom

“Congratulations to every one of our athletes on their incredible achievements and for making us proud to be their teachers and coaches. We celebrate not only the medals and records, including two new FOBISIA Games records, but also the great sporting spirit of the team. The way they supported each other, competed hard and fairly, and represented BIS HCMC with pride was outstanding.

The FOBISIA Games is more than a competition. It is an opportunity for our students to challenge themselves, build resilience and create lifelong memories. Watching them cheer one another on, share in every victory and setback, and form bonds that go beyond the field is what makes these games truly special.”

Now the Best Part: Hear from Our Captains

We now hand over to our U15 FOBISIA Games captains, Jackson and Leonie, as they share the team’s journey from the moment they left campus to the final whistle.

Day 1: Travel

Our first day was a long day of travel to the sports complex. It was a great opportunity for our squad to bond and grow stronger as a team. We started early at the airport before boarding our flight to Thailand, followed by a 2-hour bus ride to the Pattana sports complex. Even with the long journey there were plenty of laughs, including an impromptu karaoke performance and a very memorable Taco Bell stop (which most of us regretted the next day). The trip helped us strengthen friendships and set the tone for a successful FOBISIA Games.

Day 2: Athletics and Swimming

We kicked off our first day of competition full of energy. After the opening ceremony, the athletics events began and our team delivered several stunning performances, reflecting the grit and hard work behind all our early morning sessions. A special mention goes to Lila and Jackson for breaking the High Jump and 800m FOBISIA records. Many athletes stepped into events they had never tried before which showed the courage and camaraderie within our squad. Whether you brought home medals, placed lower than expected, or spent the morning cheering from the side lines, every effort contributed to our success.

Later in the day we moved to the pool. Swimming seemed like a weaker area going in but our team exceeded expectations, winning multiple medals even though many of us were not experienced swimmers. Our hunger and drive helped secure a 3rd place overall finish. The free coconut ice cream afterwards was a great morale boost before the long football day ahead.

Day 3: Football

The girls kicked off early while the boys had a later start. Strong performances from the girls were not reflected in their early results which affected their confidence, but the team rallied and showed real BIS spirit. The boys started with a strong 3 to 0 victory but became complacent which led to missed opportunities later in the day. The girls soon found their rhythm again and began climbing the rankings while the boys returned to form with a confident win in their final game. Both teams finished 4th, which was tough, but it taught us the importance of humility and increased our determination going into basketball.

We also had so much fun. One of our players, Martha, said; “The whole place buzzed with excitement as the games began—the crowd roared with joy as players sprinted across the field. It felt like the entire school came alive that day! Laughter and cheering filled the air like music. We loved every moment because it was full of energy, teamwork, and fun. Everyone supported each other, and the atmosphere was amazing. From that day, we gained confidence, new friendships, and a real sense of pride in what we achieved together.”

Day 4: Basketball
The boys tipped off first which gave the girls more time to rest and prepare. By the final day everything comes down to passion and perseverance, and our team had plenty of both. We played through tired legs and celebrated every basket. Even when results did not fall our way, no one’s head dropped. The hunger to finish strongly only grew. Both teams narrowly missed out on the top spot and finished 2nd overall but we ended the day with pride, cramping legs and memories we will never forget.

Thank you, Jackson and Leonie, for this impressive write-up. Not only are you outstanding athletes, but you’ve shown you’re talented storytellers too!

A huge congratulations to every member of the team for giving it your all—through your commitment to training, your determination on the field, and your incredible team spirit throughout the games. You made your teachers, coaches, families, and the entire BIS community immensely proud.

You played with heart, you played for each other and you played for BIS.

These moments are not just victories. They are memories that will last a lifetime and reflect the values we hold at BIS: respect, care, perseverance and integrity.
