A Very Special Visitor

A Very Special Visitor - A Very Special Visitor
Our Year 3 and 4 students were thrilled to welcome a very special visitor who transformed their learning with real historical artifacts, from a Saber-Tooth Tiger tooth to a Woolly Mammoth tusk. His passion and expertise sparked curiosity, encouraged thoughtful questions, and deepened students’ understanding of their IPC unit, Scavengers and Settlers. This meaningful experience highlighted the incredible impact of our NAISNY community in enriching student learning.

At NAISNY, we believe that learning is most powerful when it is personalized, connected, and enriched by real-world experiences. Our close-knit community plays a vital role in this mission, bringing expertise, passion, and unique perspectives into the classroom. When parents and grandparents share their knowledge, they help us create moments that spark curiosity and inspire lifelong learning.

Last week, our Year 3 and Year 4 students had an unforgettable opportunity to experience this firsthand during their International Primary Curriculum unit, Scavengers and Settlers.

We were honored to welcome a very special guest, Juniper’s grandfather, George, a history teacher for 50 years and an avid collector of historical artifacts. George brought history into our classrooms in the most tangible way, sharing an extraordinary collection that included a Saber-Tooth Tiger tooth, Stone Age tools, and even a piece of Woolly Mammoth tusk!

The excitement was palpable as students examined these treasures, asked thoughtful questions, and deepened their understanding of early human history.

George was impressed by their curiosity and knowledge, a true testament to the hard work and engagement of our Year 3 and 4 learners.

Moments like these remind us of the power of our NAISNY community. When our parents and grandparents share their expertise, they enrich our students’ learning journey and create memories that last a lifetime. We are deeply grateful to George for his generosity and passion, and to all families who partner with us to make learning meaningful.

Here’s what some of our students had to say:

“I really enjoyed feeling all the different artifacts George brought in! Feeling the mammoth tusk surprised me because it felt more like wood than a tusk.”

“I liked the saber-tooth tiger because it was really sharp and looked like something from a museum. I also liked the spears because they were from the Stone Age, which is what we’re learning about in class.”

“I loved having my guppy visit us in school! I liked when he handed out the feathers. We all got to take one home. Seeing the mammoth tusk and saber-tooth tiger tooth was so cool!”

Thank you to George and our other community members who are always willing to share their expertise and get involved. It helps create truly inspiring learning opportunities for NAISNY students that they will remember for many years to come.
