The Parent Academy runs a full-year series of talks, welcoming all parents from our community and beyond. Join us for our next session which will focus on Metacognition: Helping Students Think About Their Thinking, on Thursday 4th December 2025 at 5:30 pm.
The CDL Parent Academy is designed to support and inspire parents through meaningful conversations about education, parenting, and today’s fast-changing world. Through short, engaging sessions, our experts and guest speakers share practical strategies, research-based insights, and real-world tools to help families navigate the challenges of modern parenting.
From understanding how children learn, to strengthening communication, building resilience, and supporting wellbeing, each session offers actionable guidance you can use right away.
This workshop, Supporting Well-being, Balance and Resilience in Your Child's School Journey, presented by Bridget Curran, Head of Student Support Services at CDL, will focus on three key themes relevant to students across grade levels.
We’ll look at well-being, with practical strategies to support your child’s emotional and social development throughout their school journey. We’ll explore balance, highlighting how to maintain equilibrium between academics, social life, and rest, and why this is so important for mental health. Finally, we’ll build on resilience, helping your child develop the confidence and coping skills needed to face challenges with a positive mindset.
Join us for this Parent Academy session on Metacognition: Helping Students Think about their Thinking, led by our CDL metacognition experts Coach Jaimie Robertson and Astrid Coetzer, Primary Teacher at CDL.
Together, we will explore what metacognition is, and why it’s often described as a learning superpower. When students understand how they learn, they become better able to plan, monitor, and evaluate their work. We’ll also share practical strategies parents can use at home to nurture this skill and encourage greater independence in learning.
Finally, we will highlight how metacognitive approaches are implemented here at CDL, showing how these strategies not only support exam success but also help students develop strong, lifelong learning habits.
Join us for the Parent Academy session: The Cognitive Cost of Artificial Intelligence. What Every Parent Needs to Know.
This special Parent Academy session will be presented by Jacob Rosch, Head of Educational Technologies at CDL, in collaboration with Hala Hibri, Ambassador for Women in AI Switzerland and Dr. Nicoletta Iacobacci, AI Ethics Expert for the European Commission and Founder of EducatingAI.
In this workshop, you’ll gain insights into the latest cognitive research, explore practical strategies from the EducatingAI toolkit, and take part in interactive exercises drawn from the EducatingAI methodology. The session will conclude with an open Q&A, a valuable opportunity to explore AI’s impact and discover how to guide your child with confidence in today’s digital world.
