TRIPS AND RESIDENTIALS
Day excursions and residential trips are a vital part of the curriculum at St Andrews Bangkok. These experiences take learning beyond the classroom, offering unique opportunities that are often linked to classroom topics and help bring learning to life in exciting and meaningful ways.
In Primary School, students from Foundation Stage to Year 2 enjoy a variety of day trips across Bangkok to destinations such as Safari Garden, Dream World, the Thai Air Force Museum, and Sea Life Ocean World aquarium. These excursions spark curiosity and help our youngest learners make real-world connections to their classroom learning around their Curriculum Topic.
Students from Year 3 to Year 6 add to this by participating in residential trips to locations within driving distance from Bangkok, such as Khao Yai, Kanchanaburi, Rayong and Nakhon Nayok, where students stay away from home for two to three nights and develop independence, engage in outdoor activities, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
As students transition into High School, the scope and challenge of these experiences increase. Trips typically last four to five nights and feature more adventurous outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, trekking, and rafting. These expeditions promote teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence while encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones.
These trips and expeditions offer rich learning opportunities for our students to grow personally, socially, and emotionally, as they explore new environments, build friendships, and participate in challenges that inspire self-discovery.
EXPEDITIONS
Transformative and unique learning opportunities that foster autonomy, resilience, and global awareness through real-world experiences.
Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
At St Andrews, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, commonly known as the International Award (IA), is offered as part of the High School ECA programme. The International Award is a global youth development program that encourages young people to challenge themselves through personal growth activities and experiences. It operates in over 130 countries, offering a non-formal education framework that promotes skills development, physical fitness, community service, and adventurous experiences. The Award helps young people build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose by setting and achieving goals across four sections: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey, with an additional Residential Project required at the Gold level.

The Tanzania Service Expedition
The Tanzania Service Expedition is a transformative eight-day experience for St. Andrews students, offering them the chance to make a meaningful impact in local communities around Arusha, Tanzania. Organised as part of the Global Campus Worldwide programme, this expedition also brings together students from Nord Anglia schools across the globe to collaborate on sustainable development projects. Participants are required to fundraise before the trip, helping them actively support the communities they serve. The expedition not only strengthens their sense of global citizenship but also fosters personal growth and lifelong friendships, making it a powerful, horizon-expanding experience.
Through hands-on community service in villages like Kitefu and Imbaseni, such as building classrooms, solar systems, and rainwater collectors, students develop essential life skills including leadership, resilience, and independence. Staying at Shamba Kipara Camp and exploring the country's natural beauty on safari, they are fully immersed in Tanzania’s vibrant culture.
The Deep Environmental Education Programme
Thailand’s coastal waters and islands are home to vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. However, the coral reefs are deteriorating due to overfishing, coastal development, pollution, tourism, and climate change. In response, St Andrews students have the opportunity to learn more about marine and coral reef conservation within the curriculum through the Year 9 Artificial Reef STEAM Project as well as through real-life experiences with the Deep Environmental Education Programme (DEEP@STA).
DEEP@STA is an immersive initiative that combines SCUBA diving training with marine science education and conservation. Students can choose from a range of certification programmes, from beginner (RAID Open Water 20 for ages 10+) to advanced (RAID Open Explorer 30 for ages 12+). Once certified, they have the opportunity to take part in diving excursions around Pattaya and Rayong, where they explore coral reefs, encounter underwater wildlife, learn about marine ecology, try muck diving, and visit recreational shipwrecks.
