FOBISIA Leadership conference

Last weekend myself and other leaders had the privilege of attending the 32nd FOBISIA Leadership conference, held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Weekly Highlights 28/11/2025 - Weekly Highlights 28 11 2025

The conference covered a wide range of themes from the use of AI in education to sustainability and courageous leadership. It was a great experience being able to not only listen to leaders in other schools and other areas of expertise, but also to have the chance to present. Something that both myself and Ms Stanley were asked to do. My session was centred on leading schools and people through the current change in digital educational landscape.

Weekly Highlights 28/11/2025 - Weekly Highlights 28 11 2025

The overall feeling I had from attending the conference was a strong sense of pride. BVIS is held in very high esteem by the other international schools and the attendance to both my session and Ms Stanely’s was very high. The great work BVIS does is being recognised not only by parents and students, but also by other educators across Asia.

Pastoral

This week Ms Eva Reppe-Roverselli shares some information about her role as Deputy Pastoral Leader for Hanoi House.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as Deputy Pastoral Leader this year?

I am looking forward to working with more pupils this year- I don't get to see as many as I would like in my classes, and this role is great for speaking to more of you and learning your awesome stories.

If you could give one piece of advice to students to help them succeed at BVIS, what would it be?

I think one piece of advice I would give you is to communicate as best you can. I learnt early on that talking to people in the right way and listening really helped with building relationships with anyone. Everyone deserves to be listened to and have their stories and voice heard and I think you learn a lot from listening and communicating well with people.

Can you share one interesting fact about yourself that students might not know?

One interesting fact that people may not know is that I was really bad at English at first! It took me a lot of work to get better, and I even got put down a set before I became better. I really love it as a subject now though because it helps me understand people better.

Another interesting fact is that I grew up on a farm and used to compete in Tetrathlons- It was such hard work but really helped me to be a better and more determined person.

Enterprise Week: Fashionable Hat Competition

This week, creativity took center stage with our Fashionable Hat Competition, celebrating Enterprise week, where six enthusiastic student groups showcased their innovative designs. The challenge encouraged participants to think outside the box—literally! Hats were crafted using an impressive variety of materials, including:

· Recycled items
· Cardboard boxes
· Bubble wrap
· Other repurposed materials

Each group demonstrated exceptional imagination, incorporating unique features and artistic flair into their creations. From bold shapes to clever embellishments, the designs reflected both sustainability and style.
But the competition doesn’t end with aesthetics! In the next phase, industry experts (Mr. Adams and Mr. Daniels) will put these hats to the ultimate test:

· Can they withstand rain?
· Do they truly protect the wearer?

This practical evaluation will determine which designs combine fashion with function, crowning the ultimate winner of this exciting challenge.
